Highlights:
PMACS® Solution
Implemented PMACS® software for a large, multi-carrier
insurance company to manage all producer data at the enterprise
level. Also developed a custom application to translate data and
generate client-specific codes in order to integrate the PMACS®
application with a 25+ year-old legacy system that could not be
immediately replaced
Replaced several Lotus Notes support systems
Delivered project on time in five months
Challenge
Client
E wanted to improve productivity and efficiency within licensing
department but could not completely replace existing agent database
that over 25+ years had been integrated throughout the organization.
Client E then wanted to eliminate manual processes and duplicate
data entry wherever possible. Reducing the training time and cost
required before a new processor could be productive was also a
priority.
Evaluation
Although
the PMACS® functionality met the requirements for improved
productivity, the real challenge was keeping the existing agent
database up to date temporarily until it could be completely decommissioned.
The mismatch in structure between the newer PMACS®
application, which focused on flexible producer management, and
the existing system that was designed to support the agent relationships
of the early 1970's also made the data conversion a challenge.
Finally, Client E had created a variety of codes and descriptions
over time that were used to make up for the lack of current functionality.
Several other small applications had been used to maintain and
generate these codes.
Solution
Using
the PMACS® conversion import process, the agent data
was extracted from the legacy system and converted. More than
400,000 agent profiles were converted with more than 1 million
license and appointment records. The McCamish team also created
a new application to manage the codes and data translations required
to keep the legacy system up to date. Client E selected a middleware
tool to aid in data integration. The McCamish team designed the
processing flows and developed data retrieval objects used by
the middleware in a JAD (Joint Application Development) environment.
Benefits
This
approach substantially reduced the complexity of integrating with
the existing systems and enabled the users to enjoy the benefits
of the PMACS® application right away. With the new
system in place, Client E was now able to easily transfer the
agent data requests from the legacy database to the PMACS®
application.
